6th Annual Singathon

The 2012 Singathon held at Seaway Mall, February 11th was another huge success. The audience enjoyed the music of the Power of 100 - Chorus Niagara throughout the day. They seemed to particularly enjoy the guest conductors throughout the day as well as the Children's Choir. Below is a news clip by Annie Sylvester of Bullet News taken at the event.

Chorus Niagara returns to Seaway Mall for sing-a-thon

Chorus Niagara is coming back to Seaway Mall.

The Niagara based non-profit chorus is bringing its annual Sing-a-thon fundraiser to the mall for the second year on Feb. 11. While the Sing-a-thon is in its sixth season the chorus moved from the Pen Centre to the Seaway Mall after a flash mob performance of Handel’s Messiah in November of 2010 became an international YouTube sensation. Last year’s Sing-a-thon was a rousing success with $54,000 raised and ending with one female soloist’s boyfriend singing a wedding proposal. Now she’s married and they have a daughter.

“It’s our major fundraiser,” said chorus fundraising chair Claudia Meyer, adding, “the overhead isn’t very high, everything we make is ours.” Read more:

SEAWAY MALL AND CHORUS NIAGARA – A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN?

 Seaway Mall’s food court and Chorus Niagara put each other on the global map in 2010 with a fantastic flash mob video that you may still remember. We covered it briefly right here, where you can also check out the video and add to its 36 million plus views.

So it’s great to see that the two are continuing their mutually beneficial relationship with the chorus’s 6th annual Singathon Fundraiser. For five hours on Saturday, February 11th, the chorus will return to the center’s food court for an encore performance. Read more:

WELLAND — Chorus Niagara is no stranger to Seaway Mall.

It was the chorus that performed the famous flash mob of the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah in the mall’s food court in 2010 that garnered millions of views on YouTube. Read more:

St. Catharines, ON – CHORUS NIAGARA, Niagara’s premier 100-voice ensemble, conducted by Artistic Director Robert Cooper, holds its 6th Annual Singathon Fundraiser at “The Most Famous Food Court in the World” the Seaway Mall in Welland Ontario, Saturday, February 11th from 10am-3pm.   The Seaway Mall was the location for the Chorus’ 2010 hit flash mob, which has since been viewed over 36 million times.

The Singathon is Chorus Niagara’s major annual fundraiser.  Last year’s Singathon raised a record amount of $54,000.00.  Funds are used to produce and promote the ensembles’ annual season of 4 different choral concerts featuring classical, avant-garde and contemporary choral music.  Donations can be made in person at the Singathon, by sponsoring a chorus member, or easily and securely online, through http://www.canadahelps.org
